Allison “Ally” Bliss

I am a third year undergraduate student at the University of Georgia pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Behavior with a minor in health policy and management. I have lived in Georgia my entire life; I grew up in in-town Atlanta and moved to Athens when I started college.

Outside of academics, I enjoy distance running and ran my second half marathon in January 2026. I love exploring the Athens music scene and volunteering as a dj at the UGA radio station, WUOG 90.5. I am also an outdoors person; I have hiked over 250 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee on backpacking and camping trips with friends.

I am an active volunteer in my Atlanta and Athens communities. I spent a semester tutoring elementary-aged students in Athens-Clarke county, led field trips at UGA engaging students in health education activities, and periodically volunteer at the Central Outreach and Advocacy Center in Atlanta. This nonprofit provides services such as assistance with attaining essential documentation (e.g. birth certificates and food stamps) for individuals experiencing homelessness.

I am a Double Dawg at the University of Georgia, pursuing an MPH in Health Policy and Management alongside my Bachelor’s degree. My projected graduation is Summer 2027 with both degrees.

I graduated from Midtown High School in Atlanta, Georgia in May 2023 with a Capstone Diploma and service cord (completed over 120 hours of community service).

Fall semester 2020 I attended the Outdoor Academy, a semester school in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. The Outdoor Academy emphasizes community, environment, and individualized learning that targets leadership and social emotional skills. Outside of class, students plan and lead group backpacking, paddling, and climbing trips in Western North Carolina.

As I have studied community health, access, and planning in my University of Georgia Double Dawg coursework, I have deepened my resolve to be a part of the global team of experts who challenge the status quo and collaborate to alleviate suffering, enhance positive health outcomes, and create equity through assessment and intervention. I look forward to the internship at the end of the degree program so I can begin this journey, exposing myself to opportunities in the field while applying my developing skills.

I plan to apply my knowledge to a variety of environments in both the public and private sector. I am specifically interested in policy management, analysis, and consultancy for large-scale health initiatives or organizations. Ultimately I would love to be a part of a mission and values-driven organization that conducts global work. I see the integration of best-practices, policy development (both local and federal), and advocacy as critical initiatives in which I engage along my career path.
